Pandemic (AH1N1)

A(H1N1)

Situation update
(last update 14 January 2010)

- Alltogethert in Latvia confirmed 1253 illness cases with novel flu AH1N1 (first confirmed case in 23 June).
- In European Union (EU) and The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) States newly confirmed   67 illness cases. Cumulative total - 26 513.
- In countries besides  European Union (EU) and The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) States newly confirmed   368 illness cases. Cumulative total - 158 357.

INFORMATION
In Latvia on 17 July 2009 registered 3 new illness cases with novel flu AH1N1. At the moment has been made the epidemiologic researches to clarify the cause of illness.

Today, at July 13 th, Public Health agency (PHA) started epidemiologic investigation of second confirmed novel flu A (H1N1) illness case in Latvia.

On June 29, at Saeima meeting the former  director of the Latvian Infectious Disease Center Baiba Rozentāle has been named as  the new  Minister for Health of Latvia. Ms Baiba Rozentāle for the minister post was nominated  from  People's Party of Latvia.
As in Latvia there is confirmed first illness case with novel flu A (H1N1), increases spread of infection in the world and in flu pandemic 6 phase there isn't any travelling restrictions between countries – all sectors need to be ready that in Latvia arrives infected our country inhabitants or tourists from other countries.

Today the Minister for Health Ivars Eglitis has handed in the demission to the Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis in which he announces the resignation from the post of Minister for Health.

The Ministry of Health and Public Health Agency is carefully following the latest information on the spread of Novel Flu in the world. At the moment there are no registrated suspicious or confirmed cases of Novel Flu in Latvia. However, the people in Latvia are asked to evaluate the need of going to regions touched by this infection.
